What is Dialectical Behavioural Therapy?
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive behavioural treatment. DBT works by teaching specific life skills in order to cope effectively with emotions and life problems. DBT consists of 4 modules: Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance.
St David’s run DBT skills group twice a week, and as a celebration of completing one round of all four modules, they hosted a ‘DBT day’ in October to recap on skills covered and as a fun to recognise the hard work the patients have put into the group.
Family and friends were invited to the fun day with activities varying from Emotions Bingo, DBT Tombola, Emotions Charades, Splat the DBT Pirate and many more with lots of prizes to win. A DBT wall was also created to encourage the patients to utilise the skills they have learnt independently by following the flow chart to identify which skill they should be using for the problem that they are experiencing.
A great day was had from all. Thank you to all those that helped make the day a success.
