Pine Cottages
Learning Disabilities Service
Service Overview
Pine cottages provide residential living for people with a learning disability and/ or Autism.
The cottages allow individuals to live either semi independently, as part of a care pathway, or for those who may benefit from intensive support on a one to one or two to one basis, depending on the complexity of their behaviour.
Admission Criteria
Pine Cottages support:
- Males or females aged 18 yrs + who have a diagnosis of a learning disability and/ or autism and/ or other associated conditions.
- Prior to the initial 12 week assessment period a ‘compatibility’ assessment is carried out to make sure that residents can be supported to live well together..
Philosophy of Care
Philosophically, we believe in understanding the needs of the individual through robust assessment in order to provide person centred support to enable individuals to lead fulfilling lives as part of their local community.
We do this through:
The Support Delivered
Individuals living at Pine are encouraged to have an activity plan in place which is individualised to suit needs and choice. Activity plans will embrace the Active Support model, enabling individuals to engage in meaningful activities as active participants. These plans will use everyday activities to encourage choice, engagement and independence.
By enabling staff to understand the function of risk behaviours, this enables plans to be implemented to safely manage potential risks and to provide the least restrictive support in an inclusive and empowering way.
Residents also have access to the ‘Highfield Hub’ which is the active support centre. Here residents can engage in social and recreational activities with other residents as well as more formal based teaching in qualifications to facilitate learning and education. These are based on active support models in conjunction with the National Open College Network (NOCN) to support resident’s to achieve formal qualifications which they can use in the community and develop through college or further education.
