Monday 7th November saw the launch of Active Support on Highfield Park.
There were various activities held throughout the day, including task analyses (who knew there were so many steps involved in brushing your teeth?!), one hour Training Sessions, quizzes, word games, biscuit decorating, story-telling and craft sessions.
Residents from across Highfield park joined the Activity Department to make Diwali Candle Holders (this was a firm favourite with Highfield House residents in particular), biscuit decorating (a big hit with all who attended) and using decoupage to cover the letters of ACTIVE SUPPORT; whilst 78 staff members, from homes across MHC attended the 1 hour Introductory Training sessions with Dr Rachel Worthington. Here, staff learnt the purpose of Active Support, the different types of support a person may need (ASK-INSTRUCT-PROMPT-SHOW-GUIDE) and how to put these in to practice, by supporting Rachel to peel potatoes!
